Bangalore, Feb 12, 2014: The State Cabinet on Tuesday approved a revised detailed project report estimated at Rs. 12,912.36 crore Yettinahole drinking water project.

The project would be implemented in two stages to ensure drinking water to drought-prone districts of Tumkur, Kolar, Chickballapur, Ramanagaram and Bangalore Rural.

Addressing presspersons here, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra said that the government would bring water from eight streams through lift irrigation and supply it through tunnels to the drought-prone districts.

The project would supply 24.01 tmcft of water to these districts.

The first and second phases would cost Rs. 3,508.80 crore and Rs. 9,403.56 crore, respectively. Tenders for stage one has been called for, he said.

Mr. Jayachandra said that there would be no environmental damage to the Western Ghats or the flow of the Netravati river, he said.
