Mangalore, June 17, 2-014: Addressing a press meet here on June 16, Dakshina Kannada district BJP President Prathap Simha Nayak has urged the State government to convene a meeting to discuss on pros and cons of Yettinahole project, in Mangalore at the earliest.

He said that the Chief Minister had promised to convene a meeting to discuss on Yettinahole project during his maiden visit to the district one year ago. However, the State government went ahead with the laying of foundation to the project in the first week of March.

The Minister for Water Resources during his recent visit to Mangalore had promised of convening a meeting in Bangalore. The meeting should be held in Mangalore by including experts, NGOs, and members of political parties and others concerned. The meeting should come to a final conclusion. The government should announce the date for the scheduled meeting in advance, he added.

The State government should take the people to confidence and should protect the interest of the people of Dakshina Kannada. He said that applications under 94 (C) of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act should be received in every gram panchayat. At present, the applications to regularise the houses built on government land in rural areas is being accepted at nemmadi kendras in hobli centres. Accordingly, only 40 applications are received daily, which has been causing inconvenience to the beneficiaries. To help the thousands of beneficiaries in Dakshina Kannada, the applications should be accepted in every gram panchayat.

Stating that Lok Sabha poll results in Dakshina Kannada has sent a message to the Congress that voters no longer tolerate misuse of government machinery by the ruling ministers, he said false cases are filed against BJP leaders in the district. Nayak said that the State government is still in ‘take off’ stage and has failed to study the pros and cons of a welfare scheme before its implementation. Without making any preparations, the government is engaged in announcing schemes. When it comes to implementation, the schemes invariably fail to reach the beneficiaries. The State government should stop hate politics and appeasing a particular community.
