Udupi, Sep 16, 2018: A veteran international athlete Katapady Sulatha Kamath who runs a tea stall at Katapady was grievously attacked by two persons at around 3.30 am on Saturday.
Sulatha has suffered a fracture in her nose due to the attack and is hospitalised. The accused Deekshith and Charan Kunder have been arrested.
Sulatha who had won several medals in marathon walks and races for veterans used to normally run her tea stall located alongside the NH 66 at Katapady till late in the night. That fateful night Sulatha as usual had closed her shop and retired to bed at her house nearby. It is said the duo who arrived at around 3.30 am by making a big sound near the gate and demanded tea and omelette from Sulatha. When she refused they attacked her with a stone. The duo even threatened Sulatha’s husband and daughter. Soon after the family informed the police who rushed to the spot and arrested the duo.
Kaup Police are investigating the case.
