Mangalore, Mar 29, 2014 : A total of 16 candidates are in the fray from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming Parliamentary elections. Iruvail Chandrahas Shetty who had filed nomination as an independent candidate, withdrew his nomination on March 28, Friday being the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
Informing this to reporters here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim who is also the District Returning Officer, said Supreeth Kumar Poojari who had filed two nomination papers as an independent and from Hindustan Janatha party has now clubbed his nomination papers and will contest as HJP candidate.
He said Expenditure Observer (EO) has been appointed in each assembly constituency to keep a tab on the election expenses of candidates. The DC also informed that an Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell has also been set up by the Election Commission of India.
Fire arms deposited : The Deputy Commissioner also informed that over 13200 licensed fire arms have been deposited by their owners with the police department and added over 92 per cent of fire arms have been deposited until now.
He said on March 27, Thursday, Congress leader Ivan D’Souza has lodged a complaint on violation of code of conduct by BJP for hurling unnecessary allegations against Health Minister UT Khader over a BDA site allotment issue.
