Thousands take part in Nitte Mangalore Half Marathon

Mangalore, Feb 23, 2014: Thousands of enthusiasts had converged at the Mangala Stadium in the city in the early hours of February 23, Sunday to take part in the third edition of the Nitte Mangalore Half Marathon named ‘Run For Unity.’ The event held under the aegis of the Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association, Life is Calling Sports and Karnataka Athletics Association was flagged off by N. Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University which is the official sponsor of the Marathon.

Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, Dr M Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation and Mangalore Police Commissioner Hithendra Prasad were present among others.

In the competitive category there was 21 km half marathon, 10 km run, 3 km run for high school girls, and 5 km run for college boys and girls and high school boys.The non-competitive category had a five km dream run/walk.
