Shirva observes bundh to protest molestation of minor in bus

Udupi, jan 20, 2014: Shirva town observed a bundh on January 20, Monday in protest against the alleged sexual harassment of a minor by a man in a bus on January 19, Sunday night. Most of the shops in the town had downed their shutters.

 It was earlier alleged that the girl was molested by a 56 year old man named Shami Abdul Khader   in the bus while she was travelling from Kaup to Shirva. He was caught and later handed over to the police.

Protests were staged in the town on Monday demanding stern action against the accused and also to register a case of rape against him. Several prominent citizens including Ratnaker Hegde, Santosh Kutyar and others participated in the protest.

Meanwhile, a large crowd had gathered outside the Shirva mosque and tried to stop vehicles. But police who rushed to the spot dispersed the crowd after warning to resort to a lathi charge. Tight security has been maintained in the town to  avert untoward incidents. held their annual general body meeting on Friday 10th January, 2014 at the Al Jawhara Al Ahlea School, Riggae.
