Kundapur, June 20, 2013: Monsoon is playing havoc on the coastline. Already there are reports of sea erosion aggravating at several places. In the tourist spot of Trasi in Kundapur, the mighty sea has engulfed a portion of a pavement that was built to facilitate tourists visiting this picturesque spot.
The mighty tidal waves and the turbulent sea has eaten up a portion of the 250 meter long pavement and the fear is that the entire pavement constructed at a cost of several lakhs of rupees may be nowhere in another few days if the sea continues to remain turbulent.Already, a coconut tree in the area has fallen victim to sea erosion.
K Gopal Poojari, local legislator has visited the spot and has asked the Deputy Commissioner to take up remedial measures to check sea erosion. Nirmithi Kendra officer Dinesh along with Rathod, Executive Engineer of the Department of Fisheries and Ports too visited the spot and assessed the damage as well as the measures that need to be taken.
Presently, police officials including K Taranath, Coastal Security Police inspector, S Sampath Kumar, Gangolli Inspector and other personnel are at the spot to ensure safety of tourists visiting the spot. Even Mohammad Ibrahim of 24X7 Helpline of Gangolli is camping at the spot.
