Mangalore, November 13: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) received the railway department’s nod to construct a 3-lane road over bridge (ROB) at Yekkur near the Fisheries College.


Railway department approves NHAI’s ROB project at YekkurThis forms part of the four-laning project of the 90km stretch of Talapady – Suratkal – Kundapur under the third phase of the National Highway Development Project (NHDP) on the build operate transfer (BOT) toll basis.


The project has two parts—a 15km Talapady – Nanthoor stretch and a 75km Suratkal to Kundapur stretch, which has been integrated as one project under BOT. The Navayuga – Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL) Consortium, an Andhra-based consortium, which has been chosen to undertake the project, has already floated the required Navayuga – Udupi Tollway Pvt. Ltd. Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).


The ROB at Yekkur is a minor 31-metre bridge. Besides the Yekkur ROB, 3 minor bridges of varying lengths between Talapady and Nanthoor need to be constructed along with 2 major bridges along the 15kms stretch, an 800-metre bridge at Nethravathi and a 70-metre bridge at Talapady.


The total project will cost Rs. 674 crore for the 4-laning of the 90km stretch with the land acquisition cost and cost of shifting utilities being Rs. 220 crore. The latter portion will be paid by the NHAI, which will also have to pay Rs. 221 crore as grants to make the project viable.
