Kasaragod, July 18, 2014:  The road repair work started a couple of days back on Kasargod Mangalore National Highway to give it a superficial sheen in the wake of the President Pranab Mukherjee’s Kerala visit on July 18, patchwork is being done on the National Highway. The chronically poor condition of roads in the area will not get durable attention though.

Soil is being carried in the tippers and is filled in the potholes on the road. The mud will be possibly washed away if it rains before for sure. The district administration is working hard  for all security measures during the President’s visit.

A preparatory meeting was held in District Collector’s office in this connection  District level top officials took part in the meet. The invitees have to carry separate identity card to participate in the Convocation function. Only the people’s representatives, students of Central University, their parents, higher officials and journalists will be allowed for the function.Mobile phones, water bottles, packets of eatables will be banned in the programme venue. Parking of vehicles will not be allowed in the premises. Once the helipad is done, the area will be under the control of NSG.  Kerala Governor Sheila Deekshit, Chief Minister Oommen Chandi, Chief Secretary to the Government of Kerala, DGP and others will offer a welcome to the President at the helipad.

The progress on the work of the stage and helipad is being monitored by the PWD. Seven units of fire service will be alert on the spot. Arrangements have been made in various hospitals of the district, to handle emergency situations, if any. Several guest houses including CPCRI guest house and Kasargod guest house have been reserved for VIPs.

Hotlines will be installed at the Central University, for the President. The food security section will examine the food to be served on the occasion. Elimale Navy Band will play the National Anthem. It is indeed an important occasion in the area.
