Modi rally: Traffic restrictions; security stepped up in city

Mangalore, Feb 17, 2014: Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hithendra has informed that traffic restrictions will be enforced in certain areas of the city in view of the February 18 visit of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to the city.

Traffic will be completely restricted   from Bajpe Airport to Nehru Maidan via Nanthur Circle on this day from 12 noon onwards.

Speaking to reporters in the city on February 16, Sunday, the Commissioner said security will also be stepped up in the city. He informed that  additional police forces including 12 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police, eight platoons of Army Services Corps (ASC) and one platoon of Rapid Action Force (RAF)  would be deployed.

Additional police personnel from other districts will also be deputed on security duty. He also  informed that bomb detection squad and disaster management team will be kept  on alert.

The Commissioner informed that parking of vehicles will not be allowed within 500 meters of the venue of Modi’s programme. The parking rules will be enforced with effect from 6 pm on  February 17, Monday, he said.

Giving details on the traffic restrictions, the  Commissioner said  traffic will not be allowed from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan,  from Ballalbagh to Hampankatta and from Koti Chennaya Circle at Nandigudda towards State Bank bus terminus. All apartments leased out recently close by the function venue will also be checked, the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner also   urged the public to co-operate with the department.
