Mangaluru, May 27, 2020: The annual two month fishing ban period which was supposed to begin on June 1 has been postponed upto June 14. The Union Government has passed an order to this effect, informed District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary in a tweet.
He said the state government is yet to issue an order to this effect. Once the government issues the order, the new date for fishing ban would be applicable, said Fisheries Department Deputy Director Parshwanath.
Though generally deep sea fishing activities are banned from June 1 to July 31, this year as fishing activities had to be suspended due to two months of lockdown, the government has taken the decision to postpone fishing ban period commencement in the interests of the fishermen who have already suffered much loss.
