Mangalore, Feb 24, 2014: Pumpwell Circle which used to welcome visitors to Mangalore with a huge Kalasha in the midst of it, will soon fade into history.
The National Highway Authority of India has already commenced the task of demolishing this circle (Mahaveera Circle) on the NH 66, to make way for a flyover to ease traffic congestion in the area.
As per plans, a two -lane flyover will come up between Nantur-Pumpwell here. Sriram Mishra, NHAI officer said the 90 meter long and 24 meter wide flyover will be constructed here. According to NHAI authorities a service road will be laid before the commencement of flyover works.
Though opposition was heard for the demolition of this circle in the beginning, as of now all hurdles are cleared to facilitate highway expansion.
There is a possibility of the authorities permitting to shift the existing Kalasha at the Pumpwell Circle to the nearby ground.
The Circle also known as Mahaveera Circle was developed at a cost of Rs 12 lakhs on a 43 cent land.
