Reportedly, Shri Sathya Sai Baba did not appoint a successor. The air is thick with rumors regarding disagreement between trustees and Baba’s relatives over his assets. According to one of these rumors, Sai Baba had prepared a will that names Satyajit, who was very close to him during the last years of his life, as the head of his lucrative trust.

Satyajit (38), who hails from Mangalore, has been serving Sai Baba for the past 15 years. He was also present near Baba’s death bed. Ever since Shri Sathya Sai Baba had a fracture of the thigh bone in 2003, Sathyajit accompanied him to public functions and meetings. Shri Sai Baba was also known to have expressed his gratefulness to Satyajit and his desire to give him an important position in this powerful trust.

Born in Kudroli on Feb 16, 1974 to Mohini and Umesh, who were devotees of Satya Sai Baba, Satyajit did his MSc and MBA in Puttaparthi. He also received a gold medal for MBA from Shri Satya Sai Baba and delivered a speech about Baba on the occasion, which the Baba greatly appreciated. The spiritual guru later invited him to become his personal assistant, after which he completely devoted himself to Sai Baba. His parents are also serving at Satya Sai Baba’s ashram in Whitefield.
