Mangalore, Feb 19, 2014 : The 387th birth anniversary celebrations of Chatrapathi Shri Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated at the Town Hall in the city on February 19, Wednesday under the aegis of the District Administration, Department of Kannada and Culture and District unit of Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Parishat. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp and offering floral tributes to the portrait of Shivaji Maharaj.
In his address, the MP said the valour and fighting spirit of Shivaji must serve as an inspiration to the society. He also urged parents to enlighten their children on the ideals and virtues of Shivaji.
A.B. Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner presided over the function. Devoji Rao Jadhav, President of the Arya yane Maratha Samaja Sangha, Mangalore-Kasargod and Suresh Rao K Laad, Joint Secretary of Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Parishat, were present as chief guests.
The key-note address was delivered by P Sarvajna Achar, retired teacher. AV Suresh Rao Karmore, District President of Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Parishat, Chandrahas Rai B, Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture and others were present.
Prior to the function, an artiste dressed in the attire of Shivaji, who came riding a horse attracted the attention of many.
