He was speaking to reporters in the backdrop of the High Court stating that the case can be heard in the district court also.

Nasir said even the Committee has records to prove that a Juma Mosque existed in Malali Pete of Tenka Ulippady village of Mangaluru taluk. As the mosque property comes under the Wakf property, the committee wished that the case be heard in the Wakf Tribunal, he said.

Stating that they were hopeful of getting justice, he said the documents in possession of the Committee would be produced during the hearing. He said even scholar Dr Amritha Someshwara in his work on Abbakka has mentioned the presence of a mosque in Malali even during the times of Abbakka. He further added that even revenue department’s old documents mention the mosque and that they have documents regarding this.

He said the mosque was surveyed through Tahsildar in 2004. As per the Supreme Court, once declared a Wakf property, the mosque comes under the Wakf Board and therefore disputes if any has to go before the Wakf Tribunal.

Referring to the court case wherein some people had argued that there were carvings of a temple in the mosque, he said the High Court has only said that the case can be heard even in the district court. He further clarified that the Court has not said that it was not the land of the mosque.

District Wakf Advisory Committee Vice President Dr A K Jamal, Malali mosque committee president Abdul Razak, District Wakf Officer Aboobakker and others were present.
