MRPL Managing Director Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath informed reporters that this sweet (low sulfur) indigenous crude will undergo processing into various fuels and petrochemicals at MRPL, thereby contributing to the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

Equipped with three distinct crude distillation units and crucial supporting infrastructure, the coastal refinery is now capable of processing a variety of crudes, boasting a diverse crude basket consisting of 250 varieties from across the globe, with over 100 already processed at the Mangaluru complex.

The exploration efforts in the Krishna Godavari basin were made possible through ONGC’s investment of Rs 30,000 crore in deep and ultra-deep field explorations, overcoming natural and technical challenges. Expected to peak at 45,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 10 million standard cubic meters (SCM) per day of natural gas, this production underscores ONGC’s commitment and technical prowess in enhancing the nation’s energy self-reliance.

Kamath emphasized that this crude oil represents a 7% increase in India’s potential crude oil and natural gas production at its zenith, demonstrating the ONGC Group’s dedication to bolstering the country’s energy security.

Sanjay Varma, MRPL’s Director of Refinery, highlighted the event’s significance in India’s energy landscape and its pivotal role in unlocking the nation’s economic potential. Symbolically, Sunil Kumar, ONGC’s GGM Projects, handed over the crude oil to MRPL.
