Lokayukta apprehends Land Surveyor while accepting bribe red-handed

Mangaluru, Mar 8, 2024: In a significant development, Lokayukta officials nabbed a land surveyor in Mangaluru as he was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 4000 from a citizen in exchange for providing a land sketch.

The accused, Sheetalraj S G, a resident of Neermarga, was apprehended by Lokayukta authorities following a meticulously planned operation. The incident came to light when a citizen acting on behalf of Lilly Vaz applied online for a Tatkal Podi in the RTC section of the DC office under the name Stella Janet Vaz. An official government fee of Rs 1500 was duly paid, and a receipt was obtained.

On February 29, Sheetalraj conducted a survey of the land and subsequently demanded a bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant in return for providing the sketch. However, after negotiations, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 4000. Swiftly alerted, the complainant promptly reported the incident to Lokayukta authorities, leading to the arrest of Sheetalraj while he was in the process of accepting the bribe.

The operation was spearheaded by Lokayukta SP C A Simon, with DySP Chaluvaraju B, Dr. Gana P Kumar, Inspector Amanullah, and Suresh Kumar playing active roles in its execution.
