Mangalore, June 22, 2014: Chairing a review meeting, DK District-in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai has said that there is a need to finalise the locations for the construction of DC office complex. The committee comprising officials of public works department, housing board, Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Commissioner, mayor and MLAs will finalise the locations. A committee has been set up for finalising the location for the construction of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner’s office Complex. The committee has been asked to submit a report within a week.

DK Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the committee will finalise the proposal by identifying the suitable spot for the construction of district administration complex latest before June 30. “The matter will be discussed at a review meet to be held in the first week of July,” he said.

Explaining the locations, Karnataka Housing Board officer said that Bangra Kuloor land is not viable as a drain flows adjacent to it and the land has been earmarked for the development of parks. Urwa-Kottara is another land suitable for the district administration complex, Rangamandira and Ambedkar Bhavana. There is a need to relocate the existing government quarters. Land belonging to veterinary department near the jail and the Karnataka Forest Development Industries Corporation near Padil were other two locations discussed in the meeting.

The officer said that the DC office complex, Rangamandira and an Ambedkar Bhavan can be constructed in nine acres of land at Urwa if 219 government quarters are demolished and apartments are constructed for the accommodation of officials.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that 100 acres land belonging to NMPT at Baithurli near Kulashekar can be used for relocating Wenlock Hospital and for starting a government medical college, to which, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that file for the starting of a medical college is being considered. “We will take a licence for starting the medical college first.” The meeting decided to go for a technical sketch design for the bus stand at Pumpwell on five acres land.

Sea-erosion:
Official from Ports department said that the work on laying a temporary wall to check sea erosion has been completed in Kaiko. Out of 800 metres long wall, 300 metre work has been completed in Ullal region and the remaining work is in progress. The work on wall at Meenakaliya is in progress.  The Tahsildar said that 72 houses have been damaged following sea-erosion. Eight families have been shifted to safer areas. Two houses have been collapsed.

Forest Rights:  The Minister directed DCF to accelerate the process of issuing title deeds for traditional dwellers under Forest Rights Act in the district. The ITDP officer said that 370 village forest committees have been constituted in the district.

155th birth anniversary of Kudmul Ranga Rao: Dakshina Kannada district administration in association with various organisations will celebrate the 155th birth anniversary of social reformer Kudmul Ranga Rao, at Town Hall in Mangalore on June 29. This is for the first time that the birth anniversary is being celebrated by the district administration. The DC directed the MCC Commissioner to make arrangements for the cleaning of Rao’s graveyard at Babugudde in Attavar, on the day of 155th birth anniversary celebrations.
