Kasargod, March 28, 2014: In a horrific incident, the body of a young man was found buried under sand close by a construction site at Kumble on March 27, Thursday. It is suspected to be a case of murder.
The deceased Shafique (27), is the son of a former Kumble Gram Panchayat member Ahmed. A few locals including construction workers had noticed the head jutting out of the heap of sand in the evening and immediately alerted the Kumble police who arrived and took the body to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.
The body was found with its hands and legs tied. Police said 18 stab injuries were found on the body.
It is learnt, three pairs of footwear and a bottle of liquor were found near the body. According to the police at least four persons were involved in the murder.
Sources said Shafique had gone out in a bike at around 8.30 pm on March 26, Wednesday along with a person who arrived at his house. He did not return home later. However, when his mother called his mobile, it was received by someone else who said Shafique was away to Uppala after leaving his phone for charging.A search for Shafique later on went in vain.
The suspicion is that the murder was an act of avenge as Shafique was earlier accused in a case of kidnap and assault on a tempo driver and also a case of attacking a boy and stoning a house.
Investigations are underway.
