Mangalore, May 30, 2013: Schools, both private and government, across Dakshina Kannada district re-opened on May 30, Thursday after a two month long summer vacation.
Children clad in uniforms and with new school bags on the back, are back in school with memories of fun-filled holidays behind them.
Though school will officially begin classes on June 1, the Education Department has directed school heads to re-open schools on May 30 itself to make necessary arrangements to hold classes.
This time, the Education Department seems to have ensured that text books were available to students on time. Some private schools distributed the text books on the re-opening day itself. It is learnt, there is a demand for over 7.5 lakh textbooks in Dakshina Kannada.
Shops selling stationery, uniforms and other learning materials are seen overcrowded with parents and children busy shopping for school essentials.
