Mangalore, Dec 16, 2013 : Qamara-ul-Islam, State Minister for Municipal Administration, Haj and Wakf Board has informed that the proposed Hajj Ghar which will come up at Kenjar near the Mangalore International Airport would be operational by 2015.
Speaking to reporters here on December 15, Sunday, he said the Government has released Rs 3.5 lakhs for fencing of the land and that the works will be taken up immediately. He said Haj pilgrims not only from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi but also from Kodagu will benefit from the Haj Ghar which can accommodate nearly 1000 pilgrims. He said arrangements would be made for another 1000 pilgrims in the near future.
The Minister also informed that works of a Haj Bhavan in Bangalore are progressing and will be complete in 2014. Similarly land has been identified for a Haj Ghar in Gulbarga too, he informed.
He further said the government has set aside Rs 25 crore to help minorities purchase sites by offering them subsidy upto Rs one lakh.
He also said information centres on various schemes available for minorities, will be opened in ten districts. Qamara-ul-Islam also said as many as 18 TMCs in the state will be upgraded to CMCs while 15 town panchayats will be elevated to TMCs. There are also plans to upgrade 164 gram panchayats into town panchayats the minister informed.
