Mangaluru, Oct 22, 2015: Grace Pinto, managing director of Ryan International School and Dr H Shantaram, Administrative officer of Manipal Academy of General Education were chosen for ‘Basti Vaman Shenoy Seva Puraskar’ of Vishwa Konkani Kendra (World Konkani Centre), Mangaluru.

The Awards are constituted to recognize outstanding contributions by Konkani-speaking individuals or organisations managed by Konkanies in fields such as Education, Governance, Social Service, Health Care, Science, Journalism, Literature (Other than Konkani Language), Performing Arts, Humanities, Industry, Commerce, Sports etc. There are separate awards for men and women. Both awards carry a purse of Rs.1.00 lakh apart from a citation.

 The above Awards have been sponsored by T.V. Mohandas Pai in appreciation of the services rendered by Sri Basti Vaman Shenoy to the society in general and to Konkani language, literature and culture in particular.

 The awards will be presented at a function to be held during the month of November 2015, said C D Kamath, chairman, Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Seva Puraskar Committee.

The Managing Director of Ryan International Group of Institutions, which consists countrywide network of 150 plus vibrant schools across the country and in Europe and the US. She is responsible for providing overall strategic direction to the organization and ensuring effective imparting of education to the 2, 50,000 plus students.


Amicable, articulate and aware, Mrs. Pinto is bestowed with leadership qualities coupled with a benevolent, dignified grace befitting her name. Love for humanity, unflinching commitment to make excellence in education a reality has been her lifelong mission. She has made a definite difference in the educational system by modernizing it and making it more relevant to today’s times.

 An ardent supporter of women’s empowerment, Mrs. Pinto is associated with many social projects targeted towards the upliftment of the poor and needy. She also takes a keen interest in promoting welfare of senior citizens and was awarded the prestigious Help Age Excellence Award for her support to this cause.

 
Mrs. Grace Pinto has won many awards for her outstanding contribution to education and social welfare. Some of these prestigious awards include: The National Educational Excellence Award, The Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award, The Global Education Award, The Women Achievers Award and The Sewa Chakra Puraskar, to name a few.

 
Dr H Shantaram:

He obtained Master’s Degree with First Rank from Central College Bangalore in 1951 and D.I.C. from Imperial College of Science & Technology, London and Ph.D. from London University in 1954.  Fellow of the Entomological Society of India and The Academy of General Education, Manipal. Has spent most of the time in the field of education. Was a faculty Member of St. Philomena’s College, Mysore, Delhi University, M.G.M. College, Udupi, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal and Bhandarkars’ College, Kundapura. He was the Head of the Department of Basic Sciences in the Kasturba Medical College. His educational expertise and mastery of rules and regulations are well recognised and his advice is being sought by quite a few educational institutions in coastal Karnataka and neighbouring districts.
