Mangalore, Mar 21, 2014: Even as the case of forcible eviction of a young woman and her kid from their house at Acharibettu in Moodukonaje continues to hog the limelight, an enquiry by the Assistant Commissioner of Mangalore has revealed that the Shirthady Gram Panchayat authorities had issued the door number to Malathi’s house in accordance to rules and there has been no violation of rules.
However, it has been gathered that the officials had not ascertained before resorting to eviction as to whether the land on which the house was constructed was a government or private land.
The Mangalore Assistant Commissioner Dr Prashanth had summoned the Shirthady Panchayat Development Officer to his office on March 20, Thursday to investigate into the case which has drawn flak from various quarters.
It is also learnt that the authorities had not surveyed Malathi’s land before evicting her and demolishing her house. The suspicion is if the authorities acted in a haste out of some political pressure. Even the silence maintained by the local MLA and state minister Abhayachandra Jain has raised several eyebrows.
