Udupi, July 12, 2014 : Speaking at the KDP meeting on July 11, Upendra Nayak, ZP President directed to take necessary measures to ensure housing sites to the needy. He said that no department should raise objections after identification and handing over of the sites.


upendra 22He directed the CEO to go ahead with the project of constructing houses on government land identified by the AC.  Zilla Panchayat member Ganapthy Sriyan demanded details from ITDP department over the housing sites and houses earmarked for the scheduled community people and Koragas in particular.

Member Arun Kumar said there might be problems following the change in the location of Nemmadi Kendra in Kaup. The Agriculture department officials said that the district has received 911 mm rain until July 10 as against the usual target of 1790 mm rainfall. There is 49 per cent shortage of rain. Last year, the district recorded 1952.9 mm rain during the same period. The deficit rain has hampered the agricultural activities. The department has taken measures to introduce alternative farming.

The officials said that as against the target of cultivating in 45,000 hectare of farming land, at present the transplanting is done in 12,975 hectare of agriculture land reaching 29 per cent of the total population. Last year, during this time, 50 per cent of the targeted agriculture land was covered under cultivation. As much as1406.83 quintals of paddy seeds are distributed to 3,322 farmers. The officials said 457 applications are received for mechanised farming. Seventy eight power tillers are distributed.

Social Forestry official R G Bhat said as many as 46,200 saplings are distributed and the target will be reached by July end. Horticulture Department Assistant Director Sathish said Rs 20,000 is given as incentive to rejuvenate pepper growth in the district. The target is set for 250 hectare. The fresh planters of pepper will receive Rs 10,000 from the department.  The president said that stringent measures should be taken to avoid the encroachment of government land.
