Mangalore, Mar 21, 2014: The Congress has promised prior to the MCC elections that it would not hike the property tax for the next five years and it would stick to its promise, said Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Maarla.
Speaking to reporters here on March 21, Friday, he said the decision of Deputy Commissioner who was the Administrative officer of the MCC when there was no elected council, to hike the property tax has been opposed and that a letter signed by all corporators has been sent to the Deputy Commissioner opposing the notification as well as its timing and added it was tantamount to violation of the election code of conduct.
He also clarified that the Congress has no intentions to gain political advantage out of its promise against hiking property tax.
Interim President of District Congress Kodijal Ibrahim said the election campaign office of the party will be inaugurated on March 24, Monday morning. A party workers convention will also be held the same day, he informed.
