Mangalore, Feb 22, 2014 : The Congress is gearing up to hold primaries to select the party candidate for the prestigious Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency. Pramod Kumar from Mumbai and Praneel Nair from Kerala who have arrived here as Party Observers for the Primaries have informed that the registration of voters will begin from February 23, Sunday. The registration process will be held till February 25.
Speaking to media men in the city on February 22, Saturday, they said the Primaries are being held as per the directive of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and are slated to be held on March 9 at the District Congress Office. They said senior leader Janardhan Poojari, Harsha Moily, son of Union Minister Veerappa Moily, Kanachur Monu and PV Mohan have already identified themselves as candidates.
They said a team of 16 members appointed by the high command has already arrived in the state as observers and will hold interactions with party office bearers at block offices in eight assembly constituencies of the district. The voters will be selected on the basis of the parameters laid down by the high command.The revision of voters’ list will be held for three days, they informed.
They further informed that any party man can be the candidate subject to the condition that he should make a deposit of Rs 10,000 and should mandatorily contest if selected and cannot withdraw from the fray.
The draft voters list will be ready on February 26, while the list will be scrutinised on February 27.
Both Nair and Pramod Kumar said the primaries are being held to ensure that there should be no confusion or resentment over the selection of candidates.
Interim District Congress President Ibrahim Kodijal was also present.
