Congress Primaries: Kallige, Adyanthaya & many more have no place in voters’ list

Mangalore, Feb 28, 2014: The draft list of Congress voters for the March 9 Primaries  which was put up at the District Congress office in the city on February 27, Thursday had disappointment in store for many as over half of those who  had registered their name  as voters  found that their applications have been rejected. Of the total 1071 applications, 454 have been rejected by the observers.

Interestingly, prominent Congressmen including Kallige Taranath Shetty, a spokesperson of the party and  former vice president of DCC, N M Adyanthaya, former MLA, Umeshchandra, former convenor of All India Labour Cell of the party, District Congress Secretaries, Santosh Kumar Shetty, Vishwas Kumar Das, Vinaykumar Soorinje, former district Congress Vice President Tejomaya have not found their names in the list. Even  KCCI President Mohammad Ameen was not considered eligible.

According to Preneil Nair, Congress Observer for the Primaries the applications of those who could not meet the 19 point  criteria have been rejected. At the same time he said they have time up to 4 pm on February 28 to prove their eligibility.

All seven Congress MLAs from the district including four ministers have their names in the voter list. Another surprise is that former mayor Ashraf who has recently quit the party finds his name in the list. Even the name of former KJP leader and advocate Mariamma Thomas is in the list.

The March 9 primaries is set to decide to fate of key contenders for a ticket from DK constituency namely senior leader B Janardhan Poojari and  entrepreneur and Union Minister Veerappa Moily’s son Harsha Moily. The two are expected to file their nominations today. It is learnt there are many more aspirants  for a ticket and the picture would be clear by today.
