Belthangady: Man arrested for hacking son-in-law to death in drunken stupor

Belthangady, June 16, 2014 : Belthangady police have arrested  64 year old Kuttan alias Narayanan of Miyar Barali in Puduvettu village on the charges of killing his son-in-law in an inebriated state on June 14, Saturday. The arrest was made on June 15, Sunday.

The accused Narayanan who had arrived home in a drunken stupor on Saturday night had grievously assaulted his son-in-law Suresh with a pick axe.  It is said both Suresh and Narayanan were alcoholics and on Saturday evening Suresh had come to his father-in-law’s house and both had  consumed liquor together. Soon after there arose a dispute over share in property when Suresh tried to kick his father-in-law. An infuriated  Narayanan   attacked Suresh with a pick-axe resulting in his death due to excessive bleeding.

 The accused who made good his escape remained in hiding in the forest the entire night and was caught by police while he was waiting at the Pottukere bus stand near Guruvayanakere for a bus on Sunday morning.

The accused Narayanan has six children from his first while. After her death he had remarried.  He had given his daughter Shiba in marriage to Suresh and the couple has two sons and three daughters.
