ASI Srikala harassment case: Various associations demand govt intervention

Mangalore, May 31, 2013: Several like-minded organizations including DYFI, Forum Against Atrocities on Women and Dalita Sangharsha Samithi which have expressed their  displeasure over the slow pace of investigation into the recent case of  alleged sexual harassment of a lady ASI by the ACP South TR Jagannath, have urged the government to intervene in the matter and ensure justice.

The leaders of the organization including Vidyya Dinker of Forum Against Atrocities on Women, alleged that the ACP was pressurizing ASI Srikala to withdraw the complaint. She said the enquiry committee constituted as per Vishaka Guidelines has made no progress in the investigation and  added even the accused ACP has not been placed under suspension during  the investigation.

Stating that it was clearly a case of sexual harassment in work place, Vidya said  the victim is being pressurized to withdraw case by filing several complaints against her in different police station limits of the city. A complaint charging the ASI  in a two-year old fraud case which however has been closed following a ‘B’ report, clearly reveals that these are attempts to save the ACP.

She also stated that a fact finding committee would gather details regarding the case within two weeks. Vidya also deplored the silence maintained by elected representatives of the district on this issue.

Muneer Katipalla District President of DYFI said the court has also not granted anticipatory bail to ASI Srikala  in the fraud case, thus making it difficult for her to attend  the sittings of the enquiry committee.
