Mangalore, March 01: The Bajpe Police have arrested 6 persons suspected of being involved in the brutal murder of Kabir on Feb 25.

Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh told reporters at a press conference held in Mangalore on March 1, Tuesday that the Bajpe Police have so far arrested Ravi alias Tiki Ravi alias Annappa Swami of Haveri, Naga alias Nagaraj Poojary of Thokkottu, Tilakraj Shetty of Thokur, Chethan alias Chethu of Kodikere, Sahan alias Shaan of Ullal, and Lokesh alias Loku of Thokur. They are all between 25 and 30 years of age, except Sahan alias Shan who is only 19.


Police sources have revealed that Kabir was murdered as an act of revenge for the murder of Sukhanand Shetty. Reportedly, influential people with political and industrial backgrounds had conspired to eliminate Kabir. The police are now investigating the involvement of these influential people in the murder.


The Scorpio vehicle used to murder Kabir has given rise to a number of questions. Police investigations have revealed that this vehicle was seen in Gurpur recently and belongs to a resident of Belthangady. This vehicle has already been seized by the police.


One case has been registered against Chethan at Mangalore Rural Police Station and two have been registered at Suratkal Police Station. A case each has been registered against Thilakraj Shetty at Uppinangady and Kavoor Police Stations. A case has been registered against Tikki Ravi at Urwa, four cases at Kavoor, five cases at Barke, and 2 cases at Bunder Police Stations. Two cases have been registered against Lokesh at Suratkal Police Stations. One case each has been registered against Nagaraj at Uppinangady and Panambur Police Stations. All have been booked for murder, attempt to murder, and assault.

 
The police commissioner said that the six were arrested as per clues discovered by an expert police team and that they are likely to make some more arrests during the following days. He also said that the police teams have beefed up security in the area to prevent any more retaliatory murders.


He also awarded Rs. 10,000 to the police team headed by M. Puttamadaiah, the Panambur sub-division assistant police commissioner, for their quick progress in this case.
