Mangaluru, March 24, 2024: A total of 30,348 Class 10 students from Dakshina Kannada and 14,331 from Udupi districts are gearing up to take the SSLC examination, commencing on Monday, March 25.

The first language paper, carrying a weightage of 100 marks, is slated for Monday. Subsequently, the schedule includes an 80-mark paper on Social Science on March 27, followed by Political Science/Science papers on March 30, Mathematics/Sociology papers on April 2, Economics paper on April 3, third language paper on April 4, and second language paper on April 6.

Among the Dakshina Kannada students, 27,663 are regular attendees, 1,632 are repeaters, and 1,053 are private candidates. Notably, the Bantwal educational block has the highest number of students at 6,123, followed by Mangaluru North with 5,810, Mangaluru South with 5,452, Puttur with 4,995, Belthangady with 4,035, Sullia with 1,985, and Moodbidri with 1,948 students.

Dakshina Kannada boasts a total of 88 examination centers, distributed as 18 in Mangaluru North block, 16 in Mangaluru South, 17 in Bantwal, 13 each in Puttur and Belthangady, six in Sullia, and five in Moodbidri blocks. The staffing includes 88 chief superintendents, 42 deputy superintendents, 88 custodians, 88 local vigilance squad members, and 1,588 room supervisors.

In Udupi district, 14,331 students from 272 schools will sit for exams across 51 centers, overseen by 806 personnel. Strict protocols are in place, including students wearing the prescribed school uniform and the installation of CCTVs in all examination rooms. Any irregularities concerning question paper storage should be promptly reported to district authorities, according to official releases from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations.

Venkatesh Patagar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction in Dakshina Kannada, expressed confidence in students’ preparedness for the revised examination scheme, which includes 100-mark (first language) and 80-mark (remaining five subjects) theory papers alongside 20-mark practicals for each subject. Special attention has been given to assist slow learners, and students have received encouragement from the Deputy Commissioner to approach the exams with calmness. Additionally, KSRTC bus facilities have been arranged to facilitate students’ transportation to examination centers.
