4 arrested for moral policing in Ujire

Belthangady, July 18, 2014 : The Police investigating into the recent moral policing incident at the Ujire bus stand, have arrested four persons.

Those arrested are Ajith Kumar (23) of Maani in Bantwal, Suresh Salian (22) from Valpady in Moodbidri, Gopal of Laila and Lingappa Naik (37) of Ujire. Sources meanwhile say police have also arrested a few more persons, but there is no confirmation as to yet.

It may be recalled here that on July 16, Wednesday a group of around 50 persons had accosted a young pair at the bus stand and had questioned them suspecting that they were from different communities. It later came to light that both were of the same community and that their marriage was fixed.

The accused have been booked under various Sections including 147, 148, 341, 207, 153 and 149.
