Mangalore, Mar 22, 2014: Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim who is also the District Returning Officer has said that banks have been directed to keep an eye on the accounts of Lok Sabha candidates, their family members and dependents and also monitor any case of depositing or withdrawal of huge amount of cash. He said stern action would be taken against those possessing cash above Rs 50,000 without suitable documents.
Speaking to reporters on March 21, Friday after a meeting with leaders of various political parties, he said even airport authorities have been asked to be on vigil. He informed that a total of 13 cases of poll code violation have been registered until March 21 from the date the election process commenced. In two cases the candidate/political party have been served notices.
A total of 26000 application for inclusion of names in voters list have been received from March 9 to 16 and the same would be verified and the list finalised within three to four days, he said.
Dr Shantheshwar Swami, Pune Income Tax Deputy Commissioner who is appointed Central Election Expenditure Observor directed banks to give information to the Election Commission daily about those drawing over Rs one lakh cash daily.
