SI Mallikarjun Bande’ wife succumbs to cancer

Kalaburagi, July 9, 2016: Mallamma Madhu Bande (38), wife of police sub-inspector Mallikarjun Bande who died in a shootout with supari killer Munna Darbadar in January 2014, died in Kalaburagi city on Saturday after a brief battle with cancer.


MallammaMs. Bande, mother of two children, who was diagnosed with malignancy in the brain, underwent surgery to remove the tumour at NIMHANS in Bengaluru and later was admitted for treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru before being shifted to Kalaburagi city 45 days ago.

According to her family members, most of the compensation of Rs. 50 lakh provided by the government had been spent on her treatment. The government had promised payment of full salary of Mr. Bande till his superannuation to her at the time of his death but it has not paid it.

They wanted the government to pay the full salary of both Mallikarjun Bande and Mallamma, who was working as an Anganwadi Supervisor in the Women and Child Welfare Department, to the orphaned children of the couple and also provide government employment on compassionate grounds to them later.

Superintendent of Police N. Shashikumar, who along with other senior officials paid their last respect to the mortal remains of Ms. Bande, said that there was a provision for payment of pension of both Bande and his wife to their children and a proposal in this regard would be sent to the government. The family members also demanded that the government take full responsibility of the education of both the children of Mr Bande.

Prominent among those who paid their last respect to the mortal remains of Ms. Bande included Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal, former Minister Qamarul Islam, BJP MLA Dattatreya Patil, and former MLC Shashil G. Namoshi. Later the mortal remains of Ms. Bande was shifted to Khajuri village in Aland taluk where it would be buried besides the grave of her husband in the evening.
