10.5 crore recovered by I-T Department from Pune in largest seizure from bank since demonetisation

Mumbai, Dec 15, 2016 : According to sources from the Income Tax department , a sum of 10 crore and fifty lakh rupees has been seized from 15 lockers that belong to Worldwide Oilfield Machine Pvt Ltd. 8 crore rupees of the money seizes was in the form of the new Rs 2000 note while 2.5 crore was found in the form of 100 rupee notes.

BANKS OFFICIALS UNDER SCANNER

Since the Day the government announced the demonetisation scheme, people have have been standing in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs longing for cash. Most of the Banks seem to be experiencing a shortage of new currency notes. However, the Income Tax department and the police have been continuously catching hold of people harboring vast stashes of black money.

Incidents of new currency seizure are also giving rise to suspicion over the roles of some bank officials. But this latest seizure of 10 crore from a bank in Pune seems to be the clearest indication yet that bank authorities have a major role in facilitating exchange of black money for white.

INVESTIGATION

India Today has obtained exclusive visuals of this seizure from inside the bank as IT sleuths can be seen carrying out search operation in the main office of Worldwide Oilfield Machine Pvt Ltd on the sixth floor in Parvati towers building, in Pune, the same building which has a Bank of Maharashtra branch.

Income Tax sleuths can be seen carrying search operation, checking papers, documents in the office. The resident of the building Mr Waagh shared the details of the illicit activities going on in the office with India Today. He said the office has now been shifted to some other place in Pune.

Now along with the holders of the 15 lockers the office bearers and bank manager is also under scanner of IT Department.
