Ugandan Imam discovers his wife is a man two weeks after wedding

Kampala (Uganda), Jan 16, 2020:   An Imam in Uganda was in for a great shock after he found out that his newly-wedded wife was actually a man. Mohammed Mutumba and his "bride" signed a marriage contract in a traditional nikah ceremony two weeks ago.

 

The couple did not consummate the marriage as the bride had said that she was on her periods, Daily Nation reports.

"I was patient and waited for her to be ok," the Imam was quoted as saying. What’s worse is the fact that the Imam did not make the great discovery. His neighbours did. The Imam’s neighbours alleged that his "wife" jumped over a wall so as to steal their belongings - a television set and clothes. Thereafter, the neighbours concluded that "she" was a man.

A case was filed at the police station by the neighbours. Soon after, the Imam and his "wife" arrived at the police station as "she" wore "Islamic clothes for women and sandals", as per the report in Daily Nation.

Before putting her behind the bars, a woman police officer searched the suspect and was aghast.

"As is normal practice, a female police officer searched the suspect thoroughly before taking ’’her’’ to the cells. But, to the shock of the officer, the suspect had stacked clothes in the bra to hoodwink them that they were breasts," Isaac Mugera, Kayunga District Criminal Investigations Officer, said.

During the search, police also found that the suspect had male genitals. Upon further interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had deceived the Imam for his money.

The Imam met the suspect at Kyampisi Mosque as he said later, "I was looking for a woman to marry and, when I met a beautiful girl wearing a hijab, I asked her for love and she accepted. She told me we could not have sex until I take bride price to her parents and also exchange marriage vows with her."

The suspect will be charged with impersonation and theft.
