Tamil Nadu: District collector drives his driver’s family home on his farewell

Karur, Tamil Nadu, May 04: Farewell programmes in government departments are generally mundane affairs marked with some pleasantries and speeches over a cup of tea.

But what if the district collector decides to drive you home on your last working day?

Of course, this doesn’t happen often. But, there are some exceptions too.

After rendering his services for 35 years as a driver with the Tamil Nadu government, Paramasivam had a pleasant surprise wKarur district collectorhen the district collector of Karur decided to drive him and his wife back home on his last day at work.

When in duty, Paramasivan was tasked to drive collector T Anbazhagan’s car. So on the day of his farewell, the collector surprised everyone by taking the driver’s seat and asking Paramasivan and his wife to take the rear sea so that he could drive the couple to their home.

This was a gesture from the collector to pay tributes to his driver for the services he had rendered throughout his three-and-half-decade old carrier.

Once home, he also had a cup of coffee with Paramaivan’s family.

This is however not the first time that the collector has surprised people with his act.

In the first week of April, he earned accolades after visiting an 80-year-old woman and serving her homemade food. He spoke with her for over an hour and heard her problems. Following this, he ordered a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 for the woman.

The visit was reportedly undertaken after the collector got to know of the woman’s poor economic conditions.
