Student creates consent-themed panties to tackle rape culture

Can panties help change how the world thinks about sex?

Meet Amulya Sanagavarapu, who is betting big time that her new line of underwear will help change how people look at sex.

Amulya, a computer science student at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, came up with the new line of panties after being inspired by a prank from activist group FORCE, which had advertised a fake line of "consent panties" from Victoria’s Secret last year.

However, when no companies actually came forward to create those "consent panties" Amulya took things in her own hands and did it herself, thereby giving birth to Feminist Style.

With Feminist Style came a debut line of consent-themed panties and briefs.

Feminist Style aims to create and sell products that will target sexism and promote gender equality. The proceeds from the sales will help produce feminist advertising in order to reach more people and sell more products.

Huffington Post quoted Amulya as saying, "Everyone will agree that rape is bad, but a lot of people trivialize it in ways they don’t even realize. I want these people to see the consent panties and realize that if we lived in a society that actually understood consent, these would seem utterly ridiculous."

"The mission is to create social change through consumerism," she said.

No matter what the goal, we are sure, there are already lots of women lining up to buy those panties, after all, we all want our undies to say something, no?
