Ahmedabad, Nov 25, 2013: India’s milkman Verghese Kurien (in pic) is all set to be immortalised.
As children, reading comics could be one of the favourite past times but what if the characters depicted in these comics are real and are a source of inspiration for the children reading them. Well that is what exactly Amar Chitra Katha (ACK) is all set to do.
India’s milkman Verghese Kurien is all set to be immortalised. “Verghese Kurien: The Man with the `Billion Litre’ idea’’ will be released by the Amar Chitra Katha as new title on Tuesday, as it marks the 92nd birth anniversary of the `Father of India’s White Revolution.’ The ‘billion litre’ idea refers to Operation Flood which was started by Kurien as chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in July 1970. The book will be launched at a function at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) which was also founded by Kurien during his tenure.
The inspirational story will speak about the initiatives taken by Kurien, on how a milk deficient country became the world’s largest milk producer. It will highlight how a man who had no interest in dairying started off the revolution in the dusty town of Gujarat and ended up creating a revolution in Anand.
The ACK will depict on how this India’s milkman spent the best years of his life for this cause and worked toward the upliftment and the cause of poor milk farmers.
Through pictures and narrations, the comic will go on to depict how this revolution changed the lives of many and brought this sleepy town on the world map through simple and innovative steps introduced by Kurein and adopted by the farmers.
The narration will explain the co-operative movement.
Today on DR. Verghese Kurian’s 93rd birt anniversary, 150 lakh farmers thank him for making India the world’s largest milk producer and for filling their lives with vivid colours of happiness.
