A Japanese company is selling the world’s thinnest condoms, which are a sixth of the width of a human hair.

The ’Sagami Original 0.01’, produced by Sagami Rubber industries, is 0.01 millimeters thick.

An average human hair measures 0.06 millimeters.

The condoms were launched in Tokyo two weeks ago and cost £7.30 for a box of five.

They have proved a massive hit and many stores have already sold out.

It took Sagami Rubber industries more than a decade to complete the design of the product and more than 20,000 condoms were put through rigorous stress tests to ensure they were failsafe.

Sagami were the first company to create a colour condom, and set a previous thinness standard in 2005 when they released a 0.02 millimeter version.

The company is now exploring the possibility of going even thinner.

"As long as there is a need for thinner, we will continue researching 0.009 millimeter and 0.008 millimeter thinness," one of their researchers told TV show Tokyo Sports.
