Neglected sheepdog with 1.8kg of fur gets haircut and now looks completely different

Mar 02, 2020: A neglected sheepdog has been given a drastic make over after his matted fur became such a problem it caused him to walk into walls and doors.

Two-year-old Arlo was given in at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home when his owners were no longer able to look after him, and his shaggy coat of fluff had become so heavy it even blocked his eyes, Mirror reported.

 

The knots in his fur had become so bad that staff at the rescue centre were left no choice but chop it off - and it left adorable Arlo looking like a completely different doggo.

His appointment with the hairdressers took three people two hours to clip his hair from head to paws, with his excess locks filling a bag weighing 1.8kg when it was finally over.

It’s left Arlo feeling a lot happier as the mats in his hair were previously so bad it would pull at his skin, leaving him uncomfortable and feeling anxious when he was being handled.

Battersea rehoming and welfare manager Rebecca Lodder said: "We wouldn’t normally clip a dog with such long hair but as Arlo was in such discomfort, we felt that this was best for his welfare.

"This not only helps to keep them looking smart, but grooming is also vital for their physical health and wellbeing, too."

 

His original owners were forced to give him up when they had to move into new accommodation which didn’t allow pets but, with the fur out of his eyes, he now has his sights firmly set on finding a new home

Rebecca added: "Arlo seems to have grown in confidence since having a haircut, too. He can see properly and is so much more comfortable with handling.

"He’s had a real ’glow-up’ and now loves nothing more than running around and playing with his friends.

 

 

"Arlo’s coat will eventually grow back, so he is looking for new owners who will help to keep him looking like the suave, well-groomed boy that he has become.

"Arlo’s new owners will need to show him that it’s fun to be pampered and introduce him to grooming at a pace that suits him."
