A mum spent six months doing the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle – only to find one piece was missing.

Gretha Glasel worked on the 32,256-piece jigsaw measuring 17ft x 6ft for hundreds of hours.

She was only able to complete it by ordering the last piece from manufacturers Ravensburger.

The puzzle – Double Retrospect, by American artist Keith Haring – comprises 32 different images, weighs 3st and comes with its own trolley for transport.

It holds the Guinness World Record for the largest commercially available jigsaw.

Gretha, 56, ordered it after measuring her conservatory floor in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, to check it would fit.

The room was out of bounds to everyone but her for six months as she spent all of her spare time connecting pieces.

“My family all think I’m a bit mad,” said Gretha, “but I’m a freak for puzzles.”

She added: “I won’t dismantle it now after all my work. I may glue it and use it as my new floor.

“And next I’ve got a 24,000-piece puzzle lined up.”
