Man swings from rusty tower after scaling 213-ft structure to see sunrise

Feb 28, 2015: A man took his life in his hands after climbing up a badly rusted metal tower and hanging by his fingertips from the observation platform.

Adrenaline junkie Savely Lavrov had scaled the 65 metre antenna tower so he could watch the sunrise.

Tower

Capturing the climb on camera, the Russian can be seen doing the vertical ascent with the help of rusty metal rungs attached to the side of the building.

He said: "I liked the idea of being up above the city as the sun slowly crept into the sky, bathing my body in sunlight before moving down to the rest of the city."

And after filming the scene on his GoPro camera, he uploaded the footage to YouTube where people were shocked that he risked his life on the rusty structure.

Some of the metal bars have been corroded with rust, and the metal railings also look badly damaged and likely to give way at any stage.

But Savely, 27, said he had taken care each time to make sure he tested some of the more rusty rungs first.

He added: "I train constantly, you don’t accept a challenge like this lightly.

"I always tried to keep at least two limbs in contact with the structure, so if something gave way, there was still a chance I could save myself."

He clambered up the tower in the dim morning light to get a birds-eye view of the city of Voronezh in western Russia before hanging by his hands and swinging in mid air.

He then posted a video with the message to fans saying: "Don’t try this at home, or at least not without a lot of training."
