Largest tricolour atop tallest mast to be hoisted in Raipur

Raipur, May 02 2016: The largest Indian tricolour on the tallest flag post at 82 metres will be hoisted in the Chhattisgarh capital on Saturday evening, beating the record held by a national flag in Ranchi.

 

Chief minister Raman Sigh will unfurl the gigantic flag, made of polyester silk, at 6 pm.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar had hoisted the Ranchi flag that measures 99x66 feet on flag mast 293 feet high atop the Pahadi hills.

 

The trial run for Raipur tricolour was earlier scheduled in January but with Ranchi having gone ahead with unfurling the gigantic flag on January 24, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) decided to re-schedule its project.

“The Ranchi flag led us to re-issue the tender and our project got extended by three months. With flag dimension 105 by 70 feet at a height of 82 metres -- it’s the largest national flag on the tallest mast till date. And this was our objective too”, the RMC commissioner Sharansh Mittar told Hindustan Times.

 

The site, locally popular as the Marine Drive on Telibandha lake in the state capital, has been decked up and provided with a free wi-fi zone and three selfie points.

The cost of the project is Rs 1.20 crore and was accomplished in a month.
