James Bond? Futuristic water-powered jet pack wows audiences at London Boat Show

London, Jan 09: It looks like a scene from a James Bond movie... That or Buzz Lightyear has actually come to life.

But engineers in Canada have designed a water-powered jet pack that can hover up to 30 metres in the air and reach speeds of 22mph.

And now fans of 007, or indeed Pixar’s Toy Story, can get their hands on the high-tech flying machine for just £110,000.

Creating a buzz: The Jetley Flyer, demonstrated at the Boat Show by the Thames, costs £110,000

The Jetley-Flyer uses a powerful engine to pump water through a downward pointing tube, propelling the pilot into the air.

It was unveiled over the Thames river outside the ExCel centre in East London.

Opened by girl-racer and model Jodie Kidd, the seven-day London International Boat Show showcases the world’s best in marine technology.

Exhibits range from kayaks and remote-control boats to a record-breaking 100-tonne superyacht and 40-metre Sunseeker pleasure boat worth £15million.

The The Princess 32m superyacht, which made its world debut at the Show, is the largest and heaviest boat to ever be displayed inside the halls of the ExCeL centre.

It is so big that it had to be winched into the arena first so the rest of the exhibition could be built around it.
