July 13, 2017: The couple who got married in the first ever gay Muslim wedding have been subjected to a torrent of online abuse.
Jahed Choudhury, 24, and Sean Rogan, 19, tied the knot wearing traditional golden Sherwanis in a civil ceremony at Walsall registry office.
But the happy grooms have been targeted by trolls, with one writing underneath a picture of the pair: ‘Ex-muslim is the right word’.
The pair have also been told ‘you can’t be a gay Muslim, if you are then you’re not a Muslim’ and that ‘a real Muslim will never do that’.
Writing underneath a BBC Midlands post of the pair on Facebook, another wrote: ‘You can be either a Muslim or a gay. Because there’s no gay marriage in Islam.’
On Twitter, trolls wrote: ‘They are not Muslims, we don’t have gays and lesbians’, ‘Islam doesn’t accept this’ and ‘Just putting Asian costumes doesn’t make it a Muslim marriage, there is no concept of gay marriage in Islam’.
The pair have been together for two years and first met when Choudhury was crying on a bench in Darlaston.
Choudhury told Express and Star: ‘I’d not long overdosed and I was crying on a bench and Sean came over and asked if I was okay.
