Chinese students have gone to staggering lengths to stop themselves falling asleep while studying.
The university students have come up with eye-watering ways of working long into the night.
They use homemade gadgets involving pegs to wake them up if they start to drop off at their desks.
Young women on all night cramming sessions have been pictured with their hair clamped in clothes hangers.
They are then yanked awake if they begin to nod off in the middle of their revision.
The bizarre trend was first spotted at the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University.
It spawned a string of imitators including one woman rigged up a scarf to choke her if she started to snooze.
The pictures were posted on Asian blog Kotaku East by Brian Ashcraft.
He said: "Don’t try these methods at home, in your dorm room, or anywhere for that matter.
"Some of them look dangerous."
