May 31, 2019: For his birthday, five-year-old Sonny Blake asked his father for a dinosaur cake.

But not just any old dinosaur cake.

A cake shaped like a velociraptor, that can open and shut it’s mouth and roar. it also had to be able to "whack" the birthday boy in the head with its tail.

birthday-cake-..

His father, Australian comedian Hamish Blake, agreed to produce such a cake and set about figuring out how on earth he was going to complete the challenge.

Documenting his progress on Instagram , Blake began by making a rough sketch of a dinosaur.

He then sent the sketch to Ryan McNaught, the resident expert on the reality show, Lego Masters.

And Ryan came through, building a motorised dinosaur out of Lego bricks.

It was brilliant - but somehow it still had to be turned into a cake without ruining the mechanisms.

Blake’s followers then watched as the 37-year-old attempted to stick pieces of chocolate cake to the structure, without much success.

He then decided to work with a different substance, smothering the lego with Rice Krispies and melted marshmallow.

As a compromise he also baked a volcano out of cake, so that his son would still have an actual cake to eat on his big day.

The dad then took a break from cake making to share an important realisation he’d come to. He said: "This cake is a bit like parenting, sometimes you just sit back and look at everything that needs doing and then treat yourself to a drink instead."

The next step involved coating the whole thing in icing and adding the all important touches to really make it look like a dinosaur - including teeth and claws.

After six long hours, Blake finally revealed the finished product to everyone watching along at home, saying: "We bloody did it!"

The next morning he filmed his son’s joyous reaction to being whacked in the face not once, but five times, by the velociraptor’s tale, just as requested. Hooray!
