Jan 20, 2018: A premature baby’s life was saved by a plastic bag after she was born almost three months early.

Chloe Amos, 26, from Carlisle, was devastated when she realised she had gone into labour at just 26 weeks pregnant.

She had dismissed labour pains as stomach cramps as she didn’t want people to think she was ‘being a hypochondriac’.

Harper Elizabeth Beck was born by caesarean section on Easter Sunday weighing just 2lb 6.5oz.

In an attempt to save her life doctors placed her into a plastic bag to help regulate her body temperature.

Tiny Harper was born with two holes in her heart, but doctors hope they will eventually close on their own.

She needed around the clock care for the first nine weeks of her life but the little girl proved to be a fighter and was eventually allowed to go home.

dorable Harper is now nine-months-old and thriving at home with her mother and father, Andy Beck, 29.

She still relies on oxygen during the night and her development has been slower than other children her age but her parents are confident she should catch up in no time.

They want to share their story to raise awareness for premature babies and to give other parents hope.

Chloe said: ‘I couldn’t believe how tiny Harper was when she was born.

‘Nothing prepares you for having a premature baby and after giving birth I was terrified she wouldn’t survive.

‘When I first started getting stomach cramps on April 16 I had no idea they were actually labour pains.

‘But as they got worse, I knew there was something wrong and burst into tears as it was 13 weeks early.’

She added: ‘We are so thankful to everyone that saved Harper’s life.

‘I didn’t see Harper in the plastic bag as I was recovering from the caesarean but we know it saved her life.’

Since leaving hospital 10 days before her due date last July, Harper has gone from strength to strength.

Her proud mum said: ‘When we first had Harper we knew nothing about premature babies.
