Mumbai, Mar 04, 2021:      Do you feel you are too old to follow your passion? Well take inspiration from 62-year-old Ravi Bala Sharma aka Dancing Dadi who is still making her dreams come true. Born in UP’s Moradabad, she currently resides with her son in Mumbai and shot to fame through her dancing videos on Instagram. Her dance moves are now breaking the internet and she has more than one lakh Insta followers.

 

A versatile dancer, you can spot her performing on folk songs, Bollywood numbers as well as bhangra with equal ease and elegance. And not just us, even celebrities are in awe of this sexagenarian as the likes of Diljit Dosanjh, Imtiaz Ali and Terence Lewis have shared and liked her videos on social media.

A mother of two, Sharma worked as a music teacher in a Delhi government school for 27 years. She trained in Kathak, vocal and Tabla during her childhood and learnt the art from her now 96-year-old father Shanti Swarup Sharma. She returned to dancing and fulfilling her childhood dream after retirement.

Talking about her new found celebrity status with the Indian Express, she expresses excitement and bewilderment over Diljit Dosanjh sharing her video on Instagram and says “that moment was my biggest award”. She adds, “I think I have proved that age is just a number and you can get recognition at any stage of your life.”

She did her first Instagram video for an online competition and the love she received online in form of views and user comments nudged her to take her dancing dream forward. “Since viewers liked what they saw of a childhood passion, I thought why not make the most of it? That’s when I decided to make more videos," she says.

As Sharma is still a novice to technology, her daughter and son help her out with the shoots, songs and costumes.

She goes on to ask people to not restrain themselves because of age and follow their passion. With all the love she has been receiving online, several people have told her she is an inspiration for them and have talked about how their mothers and grandmothers had to let go of their dreams.
